Greek Excellence Star Awards
These Standards serve to assess chapters on the minimum standards they should be meeting to be viable and successful members of the University’s Greek Community and their national organization. Scoring is based on the following sections Campus Life and Leadership, Greek Relations, Academic Achievement, Community Service and Philanthropy, and in New Member Recruitment, Retention and Chapter Education. It is through these standards that the University will show the achievements of the Greek community at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Through the collecting of this information we were able to learn about many things for you as a Greek Community to be proud of. For instance, as a Greek community, your grades are higher than non-Greek students. You are also more likely to graduate than non-Greek students.
Chapters on UL’s campus initiated over 300 new members in 2009. This number helped increase the overall membership of Greek Letter organizations by 13% in 2009. That is something to be said for the efforts that each individual chapter has been putting forth.
Over half of UL Greeks are involved in other campus organizations including the Student Government Association, UL Athletics, Student Orientation Staff, University Program Council, Up Til’ Dawn Exec Board, Residence Hall Association, Association of Future Alumni, NAACP, Pre-Law Club, Ragin Peppers, and many others.
Over $196,000 was raised for organizations such as St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, American Cancer Society, MDA, Prevent Child Abuse America, Children’s Miracle Network, United Way and Faith House. This is an $116,000 increase from last year.
Nearly 20,000 hours were given in service to the community with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, Top Soccer and various after-school tutoring programs.
